Pizza Pastries

For my boyfriend’s birthday party, I wanted to serve some finger food and snacks to go along with the cake I had baked. When making multiple appetizers, it can be hard to make everything fresh and ready at the same time. When I found this recipe, I was looking for something that was quick to put together and was full of cheese (because he loves cheese). This recipe turned out great and I would highly recommend to make them the next time you are hosting people at your home because they take less than half an hour to make!

I used Pillsbury Crescent dough for these, which I’ve used for a few other appetizers because the dough is so versatile. The original recipe used Pillsbury biscuit dough, but I like using the crescents because they’re so light and fluffy.

INGREDIENTS

2 cans Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls (8 each)
1/2 jar of marinara sauce, divided
1/2 ball of mozzarella cheese, cut into cubes
16 cubes of Pancetta or slices of pepperoni
1/4 cup butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp Italian seasoning (or sub basil, oregano, and rosemary)
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper to taste

YIELD

16 pastries

TIME

  • Prep - 15 minutes

  • Bake - 13 minutes

TOOLS

  • Baking sheets

  • Basting brush

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Open each can of dough and carefully unwrap and separate the triangles.

  3. Place a triangle on your cutting board or counter. Place a dollop of marinara sauce, cube of Pancetta and two cubes of mozzarella in the centre.

  4. Fold in the corners, carefully pressing down to seal the dough together to prevent the cheese and sauce from leaking out when you bake. See above for examples of how to fold the dough and create each pastry.

  5. Place on your prepared baking sheets. Repeat for each triangle. Be sure to leave space between them on the baking sheets as they will rise and expand as they bake.

  6. Melt butter in a small microwave safe bowl. Mix in garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  7. Brush onto each pastry and top with Parmesan.

  8. Bake for 13 minutes, until each pastry is golden brown.

  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes and serve immediately with marinara sauce as a dip.

ADAPTATIONS

There are so many ways you could change this recipe to your liking! I made half of mine vegetarian by omitting the Pancetta. You could change up the fillings based on your favourite type of pizza, for example I think a Hawaiian version would be delicious (spoiler - I’m a fan of pineapple on pizza).
